A Day of Plastering with a TWIST

It’s time for yet more hemp lime plastering. My sister is visiting and wanted to lend a hand so we thought we’d show her how we do our base coat plaster – from mixing to applying to the rough stone walls by hand.

For the base coat we use:

• 2 buckets of hydrated lime
• 2 buckets of hemp
• 1.5 buckets of water

Mix to a consistency of tuna mayo

Leave for 15mins

Mix and adjust consistently with water until you have a mix that sticks together when worked in your hands

Apply by hand onto rough walls

Optionally apply with a trowel but you’ll need a significantly wetter mix.
